Building a Truck Bed That Keeps Up With Your Work

September 22, 2026 Reyesruiz Welding LLC

For contractors, landscapers and haulers, the truck bed is a tool. When the floor bows, the sides crack or the cross members rust out, every load gets harder and the truck spends more time in the shop.

Reinforcing an existing box starts underneath. Cross members carry the floor, so rusted or bent ones are cut out and replaced, and extra members can be added where the heaviest loads sit. Cracked seams are ground out and rewelded, and worn floor sections get new plate.

Sides and gates take the side-to-side abuse. Adding vertical stiffeners or a heavier top rail stops a box from bowing out, and rebuilt hinges and latches keep the gate closing square.

Sometimes the bed isn't worth saving. Then we build a new one from the frame rails up — a steel flatbed, a stake bed or a dump box — sized for the truck and for what you haul, with the mounts, rub rails, lights and tie-downs you need.

And the bed is only as good as the frame under it. If the chassis is cracked or rusted, we repair that first, cutting out bad sections and welding in new steel and reinforcement plates.
